Kent, OHIO – Ilgaz Arikan, Ph.D., associate professor of management at the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship, has been named Director of the college’s Global Management Center.
СƬƵ’s Global Management Center supports international initiatives of the University and prepares students for success in global business. The center provides students with the opportunity to learn from international speakers, study abroad and support faculty research internationally. The center creates awareness of the global business environment, providing innovative learning experiences and preparing students to compete in global business.
“I am honored to be named Director of the Global Management Center at СƬƵ and look forward to providing innovative global learning experiences for students through partnerships, study abroad experiences and programming,” Arikan said.
Arikan received a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. Prior to his current position, he taught at Boston University, Georgia State University and at the Ohio State University in MBA, Executive MBA and Executive Education programs. He has authored articles in journals such as Academy of Management Review,Management Information Systems Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Business and Politics, among others; and chapters in academic and professional books on entrepreneurial and established firms' strategies, the choice between initial public offerings versus mergers & acquisitions, management of heritage firms, dynamic capabilities, impact of animosity between nations on firms’ international market entry and governance choices, strategic alliances and joint ventures. He is an expert in the management of Italian firms.
Arikan was nominated for or received various best paper awards such as the Edward Hayes Research Foundation Competition, for McKinsey/SMS Best paper, the Temple/AIB Best Paper Award, the best paper in the Context of Global Business Track-AIB, and the Business Policy and Strategy Division Distinguished Paper Award. His research received external funding from the Ohio Department of Commerce, Mershon Center for International Security Studies, Center for International Business Education and Research, and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. Arikan has served in various roles at the Organizing Committee, and the Best Paper Award Committee at Atlanta Competitive Advantage Conference, at the AIB and the SMS Doctoral Student Consortia; the Teaching Committee at AOM-BPS Division, at the Fisher Conference on Strategic Alliances, and the Research Committee at AOM-STR Division. In addition to his academic work, he consults small and mid-size Italian firms in creating and sustaining competitive advantages and strategy formulation. Recently, Ilgaz developed the “Frontline IB: Conversations with IB Scholars” video library in collaboration with the Academy of International Business.
