The Employee Wellness office is pleased to feature our СƬƵ faculty for the fall employee wellness speaker series, “The Science of Healthy.” This speaker series covers happiness and sleep, brain health and exercise, and the science of healthy eating.
Topics and guest speakers:
- Sept. 18 – Jeff Ciesla, Ph.D., will share how sleep impairments contribute to poor health, including headache, obesity, high blood pressure, and even increased risk of accidents. In addition, he will further explain how sleep impairments contribute to poor psychological health, including depression, anxiety and general emotional dysregulation.
- Oct. 3 – Angela Ridgel, Ph.D., C-EP, FACSM, will share the science behind exercise-induced brain changes, bringing forward current evidence regarding exercise-induced brain changes in aging and neurological disorders, and discussing optimal strategies for exercising your brain and body.
- Oct. 15 – Natalie Caine-Bish, Ph.D., RD, LD, will put swirling fads and misinformation to rest through factual nutritional evidence accompanied by quick and easy behavior modifications that support your nutritional goals. In addition, Dr. Caine-Bish will share quality sources of scientifically based nutrition information so that you may serve as your own best advocate for a lifestyle of healthy eating.
All full- and part-time employees are welcome to take advantage of the entire three-part series. However, if this is not possible, please plan to attend any sessions that your schedule may permit. Time has been built into each session so that attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the presenters. Livestreaming is available. Registration is required.
Note: For full-time, benefits-eligible employees participating in the Wellness Your Way program, each session will be worth 20 points for a total of 60 points for “The Science of Healthy” speaker series.
