Fall 2023

Living By Core Values

С»ÆƬÊÓƵ’s core values are the foundation it builds upon to create a welcoming and diverse global community bonded by respect and kindness and prepared to address the problems of a changing society.

In every issue of the magazine, we present stories that illustrate some of the many ways the university community lives by its core values. In this Fall 2023 issue, we highlight how С»ÆƬÊÓƵ is fostering peace, promoting mental health and well-being, protecting the environment and preparing for the future.

Features

Fostering Peace Education

С»ÆƬÊÓƵ and the University of Rwanda build on past tragedies to promote global peace.

  • As С»ÆƬÊÓƵ’s School of Peace and Conflict Studies celebrates the 50th anniversary of its curriculum, it’s begun offering a master’s degree in peace and conflict studies this fall.

  • David Murray shares how he learned to authentically communicate with his college roommate—still his best friend years later—and how he’s trying to help others communicate better, too.

  • Cleveland native and Newman Civic Fellow Anaya Spencer is an advocate for Black maternal and infant health.

Speaking Up С»ÆƬÊÓƵ Mental Health

С»ÆƬÊÓƵ aims to achieve greater access to mental health care and well-being for all members of the university through a campaign, launched this fall, which focuses on awareness, acceptance and advocacy. We highlight eight mental health advocates who volunteered to share why they participated in the campaign poster.

Making Progress to Protect the Environment

С»ÆƬÊÓƵ’s Environmental Studies Program gains renewed momentum after the pandemic pause.
