Alumna Brooke DiDonato (’12) has earned another significant JMC “first”: her award-winning photo illustration, Exorcism, is the cover photo of the 33rd Annual Spring Photographer’s FORUM Best of College and High School Photography (2013).
Exorcism is one of 365 photos from DiDonato’s astounding one-year conceptual photo diary—the first project of its kind completed by a JMC student. The photo has already won JMC’s first gold medal in Photo Illustration in the 2012 College Photographer of the Year competition and third place in photo illustration in this weekend’s Ohio News Photographer Association’s (ONPA) 2012 annual contest (another DiDonato work, Mother Nature, won an award of excellence in the ONPA photo illustration contest). Additionally, Exorcism was one of several photos featured in DiDonato’s “Dreamscape Diary” exhibit, which was the first solo-student photography exhibit ever displayed in Franklin Hall.
Shot on day 252, Exorcism represents “alleviating oneself from internal demons that take form in the qualities of insecurity and self-deprecation.”
DiDonato is now working as a photographer’s assistant in lower Manhattan, where her work is continuing to gain national exposure.
