Fall semester is in full swing at the С��Ƭ��Ƶ Glauser School of Music! While classes were out of session for the summer, many faculty members took the opportunity to pursue personal projects in their respective disciplines. Check out what our School of Music faculty were up to this summer:

• Donna Lee, coordinator of the piano division, served as the piano coordinator and artist-faculty at Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, offering applied lessons, lectures, and a masterclass to students worldwide. Additionally, she performed both solo and chamber music, including a soloist role in Gershwin's Second Rhapsody with Maestro Ken Lam and the Brevard Concert Orchestra. Later in the summer, she participated in Classical Tahoe's 3-week Summer Music Festival in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, performing chamber music across various concert series.

  

• Tim Culver, professor of voice, performed the role of Hysterium in Porthouse Theatre's production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”

• Janine Tiffe, assistant professor of ethnomusicology, presented at the conference “Gender Relations in Wind Music: From Clichés to Diversity” this summer in Obershützen, Austria, hosted by the University of Graz. She also taught an African dance session at the Academy for Applied Arts in Rijeka, Croatia. 

• Maria Jacobs, adjunct professor of applied vocal jazz and director of the Nova Jazz Workshop Singers, released a critically acclaimed album, "Back at the Bop Stop," and is currently listed in the Jazziz Magazine "inside track." This album also features KSU School of Music Faculty Bobby Selvaggio, Aidan Plank, and Bryan Thomas.

• Amy Glick, violin instructor, performed this summer as concertmaster of the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival Orchestra, leading the conductor-less ensemble in JS Bach's Orchestra Suite No. 2 in B minor, BWV 1067, JS Bach's "Ich Bin Vergnügt Mit Meinem Glücke" BWV 84, chamber music for string trio by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, and the String Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20 by Mendelssohn. 

  

• Jacob Schnitzner, interim director of orchestras, received the   for early career conductors. 

• Herbert Marshall, assistant professor of music education, hosted a Gordon Institute for Music Learning Early Childhood course, where participants learned about early childhood music pedagogy and observed Dr. Marshall and Dr. Valerio work with children. Dr. Marshall also published two chapters: “Arranging” and “Musical Theatre,” in a new instrumental textbook by the Oxford University Press: “Teaching Instrumental Music: Contemporary Perspectives and Pedagogies.”

  

• Matthew Holm, director of percussion studies, achieved several notable accomplishments: hosting the second annual KSU Summer Percussion Camp in June, commissioning and performing new compositions by female and non-binary composers as part of the "She Scores" initiative, serving as the percussion coordinator for the Bluecoats' Rhythm IN BLUE DCI Soundsport ensemble, earning multiple awards including "best overall in show" in Indianapolis, Indiana, performing with the West Virginia Symphony, and having his debut album, "Auditory Illusions," featured on Cleveland Classical and WCLV's "Ovations" program in July.

• Perry Roth, adjunct saxophone instructor, was a teaching associate at the American Saxophone Academy. 

• Andrew Le, associate piano professor and coordinator of collaborative piano, served his 15^th season as artistic director of the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck, Michigan. He collaborated with acclaimed cellist Alicia Eppinga in a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 19, during the fourth week of the festival. 

After a whirlwind of a summer, the Glauser School of Music faculty are settled into a season of new beginnings with our students. A core part of life at the Glauser School, KSU offers nearly 200 public events every year. These events include concerts, recitals, masterclasses, clinics, and the annual Open House.
