All new С»ÆƬÊÓƵ students are required to take the ALEKS placement test for mathematics. ALEKS is a powerful artificial intelligence-based (AI) assessment software product that zeroes in on the student's mathematical strengths and weaknesses, reports its findings, and then, if necessary, provides a learning module to improve the student's knowledge and skill. The ALEKS placement may take up to 90 minutes to complete and should be completed in a single sitting. For more information on ALEKS, log into FlashLine > Student > Resources > Placement Assessments > Math.

The ALEKS placement test can be taken online from home through FlashLine. Students who wish to take the ALEKS placement test at the campus may do so in the Cyber Cafe located on the second floor of Founders Hall, Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

ALEKS Math Assessment Information

New students who have current ACT scores will be placed in reading and writing courses according to ACT reading and English subscores.

New students who do not have current ACT scores must take Accuplacer for placement in reading and writing. 

Accuplacer is offered on selected days and requires a scheduled appointment. If you are required to take Accuplacer, you will receive an invitation for testing sent to the personal email address you provided in your admission application. The email will include a link used to schedule a test date. Please watch your personal email carefully after you've applied to the University!

New students must attend a KSU Advising & Registration session, during which you’ll become oriented to the campus, learn more about financial aid, review your placement test results and schedule your first-semester classes. All placement testing must be completed prior to attending.  

You will receive an invitation to register for KSU Advising & Registration at the email address you provided on your application for admission.

New Student Orientation is held each August to welcome new students and their families to our campus. The day includes fun and informative sessions for students and parents and ends with games and lunch!  An abbreviated New Student Orientation is held in January for students starting in the Spring semester.
