Dean's Desk: An Update from Dean Dr. Allan Boike â€‹

Dear Alumni Family,

We bring you this Fall edition of Footsteps with a renewed spirit. The stories that you will find on the pages of this newsletter detail the opportunities that our community has seized in their pursuit of the passion that we all hold in common - caring for something greater than ourselves. From developing groundbreaking pharmaceuticals to ease the effects of a disease that plague over 10% of the population, to dedicating valuable personal time to yet more service to various groups in need of our support, I am continuously impressed by the work you are doing in your communities and across the nation. I hope that in the stories that follow you will find a renewed sense of purpose and belonging to your alma mater where you and the work that you do are so greatly valued. 

In perhaps the most exciting news of the season, I am happy to report that thanks to a nearly eight-year effort of various С»ÆƬÊÓƵ administrators, Ohio students enrolled at KSUCPM will soon see a significant reduction in tuition on their next semester’s bill and will graduate with less debt. At its Sept. 20 meeting, the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ Board of Trustees approved a revised tuition rate that reduces tuition by nearly $14,000 for Ohio resident students – a decrease of more than 30% – from the current tuition rate effective for the 2024 Spring Semester. Yearly tuition for in-state podiatric medicine students will drop to $32,095 from $45,961. This tuition reduction makes С»ÆƬÊÓƵ’s College of Podiatric Medicine tuition the lowest among all 11 U.S. podiatric colleges for Ohioans, a selling point that I hope recruits many bright new students to our great institution.   

If you have been keeping up with recent trends of the profession, it should come as no surprise that the incoming class of 2027 that we welcomed to campus this August is small but mighty. While it is true that enrollment for our profession is down across all ten schools in the nation, I believe that one small act from each of us can single handedly save the profession. We are the recruiters of our predecessors, a role that I encourage each and every one of you to feel empowered by.
