AID for Coaches

Awareness. Interaction. Direction for Coaches (A.I.D. for Coaches) 

In December 2023, the approved A.I.D. for Coaches as a mental health training under the  

A.I.D. for Coaches is a mental health awareness training that was created to ensure that information about mental health is distributed to coaches in a way that is convenient, comprehensive, and evidence based. The training provides coaches with the knowledge, skills, and resources to actively assist  individuals in mental distress. It uses both the Social Cognitive Theory and the Broaden and Build Theory of Positive Emotions to guide the content. 

A.I.D. for Coaches is 60-minutes and offered in-person or as a live, virtual class.

  • Mental Health Terminology and Statistics 

  • Mental Illness Stigma 

  • A.I.D. Action Plan 

  • Awareness: how to recognize the signs and symptoms of students in distress 

  • Interaction: how to effectively interact with students in distress 

  • Direction: how to locate and provide resources to students in distress 

  • Practice Using the A.I.D. Action Plan 

  • Crisis de-escalation

Interested in scheduling an in-person or live, virtual training? 

A.I.D. for Coaches is available at no cost to select school districts in Carroll, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne Counties in Ohio as part of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grants. Outside of the select school districts, the training is offered at $150 for up to 30 people (plus travel, if required). To schedule a training, please email Kayla Marker (kmarker@kent.edu).
