The Hospitality and Event Management program is the only four-year program in Ohio accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration.

The curriculum combines specialty classes in hospitality and business management, preparing graduates for well-compensated positions as managers in restaurants, hotels and resorts, meeting, convention, and conference centers, country clubs, and other hospitality venues.

Mama Mia! Hospitality and Event Management Friends and Family Dinner

Hospitality and event management students recently held a Friends and Family dinner to raise funds to support the program. Thanks to everyone involved!

"The Friends and Family Dinner is one of my favorite events that the hospitality program puts on because it allows the students to plan an event from start to finish. It also allows us to network with professionals in the industry while reaching out for donations and extending the invitation for them to attend. I am the president of CMAA (Club Management Association of America). During our interactions with club managers in this group leading up to our dinner, it showed me how supportive they are of our education. They really want the most for us, whether it is inviting us to their club to tour, donating to our silent auction, or showing up to support us at our event. The biggest thing I have learned from club managers in the Greater Cleveland Chapter of CMAA and beyond is that they are always willing to help us in any way that they can. This student chapter and our hospitality program truly wants the best for the students and presents us with so many opportunities."

"Being a part of such an amazing program has helped me grow within my career already. Planning the Friends and Family Dinner helped me gain real-world experience in event planning and it helped me make connections in this industry. I would encourage any student in the program to get involved with this, especially CMAA (Club Management Association of America). You get to network with club professionals all over the country and they are always willing to help you. They contributed so much to our Friends and Family Dinner’s silent auction and many of them from the Greater Cleveland Chapter of CMAA even came to the event to support us! They truly care about the student's education, and it shows. The biggest thing I have taken from this program and CMAA as a whole is there is always someone rooting for you and wanting to help you grow within your career."

Undergraduate Hospitality and Event Management Program

The Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality and Event Management prepares leaders for careers in major hospitality industry segments, through academic and research programs valuing quality of life, business success, collaborative partnerships, creative approaches, and ethical principles. Students can choose from one concentration, which include two focus areas. Focus areas include:

  • The Event Management focus area emphasizes planning and managing events — from large to small and from corporate to personal — in addition to following protocols and ensuring safety and security during the events.
  • The Hotel and Resort Management focus area emphasizes business skills such as managing staff and revenue, as well as the specific skills such as managing clubs and casinos.
  • The Food and Beverage Management focus area emphasizes the business side of food, such as ordering and inventory, managing budgets and planning and pricing menus. In addition, students learn food science, food production and the pairing of food and beverages.

Graduate Hospitality & Tourism Management Program

The 100% online Master of Science program in Hospitality & Tourism Management is a combined master's degree that builds off of the Hospitality & Event Management, and the Recreation, Park & Tourism Management undergraduate programs. The program develops students’ critical analysis skills, research abilities, and understanding of advanced hospitality and tourism issues.

“My degree in hospitality has given me the knowledge I need to pursue my passion. The program as well as the internship exposed me to many options that solidified that I was on the right path. That path led me to the career I have now and there is no looking back.” – Ashley Fodrey
