Students and parents are welcome to join the first theory course in our music theory sequence.  In this class students are learning the beginning building blocks of music through analysis, composition, keyboard and ear training. 

Western Music History

Students and parents are welcome to join us as we listen to and discuss popular musical styles in Western Europe from the 17th and 18th centuries.  We’ll also see how current students use this knowledge in creating their own original compositions. 

Progressive & Vernacular Music Methods

Students and parents are welcome to join us as music education students perform original songs on secondary rock band instruments. 

Understanding Western Music

Students and parents are welcome to join us as we listen to and discuss the history of American musical styles, including pop, jazz, gospel, country, and rock and roll. 

Wind Techniques Class

Students and parents are welcome to visit us as music education students learn how to play and teach secondary low brass instruments.  

Introduction to Conducting

Students and parents are welcome to join our beginning conducting class where all undergraduate music majors learn beat patterns, baton techniques, score reading, music analysis, and musical interpretation.  

Piano Hour

Pianists are welcome to stop by Dr. Donna Lee’s office during this hour to talk about all things keyboard.  Dr. Lee is our Coordinator of Piano and she would be happy to answer your piano specific inquiries and talk with you about the opportunities available to you at С»ÆƬÊÓƵ.

Issues and Trends in Ethnomusicology

Students and parents are welcome to join this ethnomusicology course to see the type of dialogue and discussion that is generated in a graduate level course. Ethnomusicology is the study of music and cultures and looks at music from around the world. 

Saxophone Studio Class

12:05-12:55 p.m. (E202)
Students and parents are welcome to join the saxophone studio for their weekly studio class.  Weekly studio class is an opportunity for all students who play the same instrument or have the same voice teacher to gather, perform for each other, and learn things together as a cohort.  

Jazz Improvisation I

1:10-2:00 p.m. (E112)
Students and parents are welcome to observe, and students are welcome to participate on their instrument or voice in this class where technique and theory is practiced so students can create their own musical lines over chord changes and key areas. Students wishing to participate should bring their own instruments. 

Voice Class for Instrumentalists

Students and parents are welcome to join this music education course where instrumental music education students are learning the fundamentals of singing including breathing, tone production and diction.  

Coro Cantare (Tenor-Bass Choir)

Students and parents are welcome to attend and participate in this choral ensemble for tenor and bass voices.

Orchestra

Students and parents are welcome to attend the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ Orchestra rehearsal as they work on Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite for an upcoming concert.  Students are welcome to play side by side with the university students if they have their instrument with them.

Fundamentals of Jazz Piano

Students and parents are welcome to observe, and students are welcome to participate in this class where students learn the technique and theory behind playing piano in jazz idioms.

Students and parents are welcome to watch the С»ÆƬÊÓƵ Opera Theatre rehearse PDQ Bach’s "The Abduction of Figaro. "

Jazz Orchestra

Students are welcome to bring their instruments and join the Jazz Orchestra for a rehearsal. 

The Open House is structured as a "Choose your own Adventure"– come when you want, leave when you must. 

Lunch

Lunch is on your own– Ð¡»ÆƬÊÓƵ has two dining halls and a selection of restaurants in the student center on campus that are open to visitors.
