On June 28, 2022, Aggée Shyaka Mugabe, Director of the Centre for Conflict Management (CCM) of the University of Rwanda and Visiting Scholar at the School of Peace and Conflict Studies (SPCS) at С»ÆƬÊÓƵ, Ohio virtually participated in a three-day conference (June 28-30, 2022) on governance in Africa. He made a presentation on " Governance in transitional periods: common challenges and strategies ". The presentation highlighted a number of challenges that face transitional governments in Africa, namely (1) violation of peace accords; (2) partisan interpretation of legal and peace frameworks; (3) unfruitful sharing of power; (4) unclear institutional mandate; (4) extension of transitional period and delays in implementing the agreed-upon timelines; (5) limited legitimacy (6) lack of adaptive management strategies. In conclusion, the speaker elaborated on the way post-conflicts societies are more vulnerable to renewed conflicts due mainly to ineffective transitional governance practices.
