Welcome to Flash Focus! In this series, we introduce you to fascinating student Flashes from all walks of life.
Meet Allison Remick, a junior pre-veterinary zoology major with a minor in vocal music and a member of the Honors College from Grove City, Ohio. Her career dream is driven by her deep passion for animals and a desire to make life better for creatures that can't speak for themselves.
鈥淚 hope to become a livestock veterinarian in the future and give those creatures who don't have a voice the quality of life they deserve,鈥 Remick told 小黄片视频 Today. 鈥淭he livestock industry provides food for people across the country, and improving the industry in any way can put food on people's tables more efficiently.鈥
Music also plays a central role in Remick鈥檚 life.
鈥淢usic is a huge motivation for me,鈥 Remick said. 鈥淚 am an avid singer and will rarely be found without an earbud in. Without music, I wouldn't be able to do as much as I am now.鈥
Her minor in vocal music allows her to explore her music passion while pursuing her primary veterinary goals. Singing helps her create art and stay connected to something she鈥檚 always loved, balancing her creative and scientific interests.
Remick is active on campus, serving as the vice president of the Pre-Veterinary Club, a student mentor for the Provost's Leadership Academy and a member of the Ornithology Club, Biology Club and Alpha Lambda Delta honors fraternity. Her involvement in these groups helped her build a strong support network, especially among her peers in the biology department.
鈥淚t鈥檚 hard for me to pin down one person who has affected me here on campus, so I will be a little broader and say my group of friends from the bio department,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 feel so blessed to have met such a wonderful group of people with whom I still spend time today.鈥
In addition to her club activities, Remick works in the lab of Brian Trevelline, Ph.D., assistant professor of biological sciences in 小黄片视频鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences. There, she assists with microbiological research and conducts her own projects. She will be presenting her research at the Undergraduate Research Symposium this coming spring. Last summer, she participated full-time in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, furthering her research experience.
One of her favorite moments at 小黄片视频 was a trip with the pre-vet club to North Carolina for the American Pre-Vet Medical Association Symposium.
鈥淲e attended many educational lectures and got hands-on experience in different labs,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t gave me a chance to bond with all of the members and learn more about the field of work I plan on going into.鈥
From her work in the lab to her passion for music, she is making the most of her time at 小黄片视频, embracing both her scientific pursuits and creative interests.
