LGBTQ Student Center plays host to Rainbow Run 5K

The LGBTQ Student Center is hosting its annual Rainbow Run this year on September 21, 2018 at 7pm in Risman Plaza. Formerly known as That Gay 5K, the Rainbow Run is a fun 5k where participants can run, walk, and roll their way to the finish line! The event started 3 years ago when former intern, Blake Kinsel, saw the financial challenges a lot of LGBTQ+ students face and wanted to create a sustainable fundraiser for the Center’s Emergency Fund. He researched and planned a color run, which had 100 people register and 50 people actively participate. The second year the glow run that continues to this day was born. 125 people registered and about 80 people came. This year we hope to have it be bigger and better than ever!

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards the LGBTQ Center’s Emergency Fund, which helps LGBTQ+ students who come upon financial hardship. Our featured sponsor CANAPI, Rainbow Level sponsor, Don Joseph Toyota and numerous other local businesses have committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community and this event.
