Location

Prague, Czech Republic鈥嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧

Nestled at the crossroads of Europe, the story of the Czech Republic runs deep, having been under the rule of countless others in its tumultuous history. More recently, following the Velvet Revolution, it became an independent country in 1993.

Studying in Prague for a summer or semester will give you the chance to better understand Czech history and culture, and gain insights into the nation's past and its impact on the present. This is a nation whose folklore and traditions still burn bright, and perhaps give its people the determination and strength to survive whatever comes their way.

By living there a bit longer, you鈥檒l also have enough time to explore beyond the city and get out into the countryside for hikes, swimming, cycling, waterskiing, etc. In some of the Czech Republic鈥檚 small villages, time seems to stand still, creating a sense of calm that will linger long in your memory.

Surrounded by Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia, you鈥檒l have the opportunity to easily travel to other nearby countries, too. The train system in Europe is highly reliable and affordable, tempting you to explore one more stop, one more new destination.

The city of Prague, or Praha in Czech

One of the most beautiful capital cities in Europe, Prague is split by the Vltava River and set amidst a backdrop of rolling hills. Its iconic castle sits high above the city, and along with Vy拧ehrad fortress on the opposite shore, you鈥檙e guaranteed to find a spectacular view of spires, red rooftops and cobblestone streets in every direction.

The city is full of architectural gems from the Medieval, Gothic, and Baroque periods, such as the Astronomical Clock, first installed in 1410 and the oldest clock still in operation. You鈥檒l no doubt spend plenty of time crisscrossing the Old Town Square as you wander down crooked side streets to find the next treasure.

Owing to its shared border with Austria, it鈥檚 not uncommon to find Viennese caf茅s sprinkled around Prague, proudly displaying some of the fanciest cakes and treats you鈥檝e ever seen 鈥 and all for an extremely affordable price given the overall cost of living in the Czech Republic. Despite being a member of the European Union, the Czech Republic has not adopted the euro yet. The official currency is the Czech koruna (Kc), and as a student, you鈥檒l appreciate the lower price point when eating out or picking up everyday items.

Airports

The V谩clav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) is the international airport in Prague. It is located 7 miles west of the city center.

Local Transportation

Prague has one of the best public transportation systems in Europe. The ,  and  are used by two-thirds of Prague's population and cover the majority of the city and outskirts. The metro especially makes getting around town a breeze since it enables you to cover long distances in a matter of minutes. If you can't continue to your destination on foot, you'll be able to catch a tram or bus from near the subway station.

If you're going to be staying in Prague for a couple of weeks or months and plan on taking public transport every day, you can save money and time by buying a tourist transport pass.

Housing

Located at Plze艌sk谩 846/66, 150 00, Praha-Sm铆chov, AAU housing was built in May 2019. Housing consists of 36 rooms located within the same building. Housing options range from single to double and triple rooms. The building is staffed 24 hours a day with a security guard and a receptionist.

Accommodations are only offered for Fall and Spring terms. If capacity allows, students could be housed during the Summer term.

Visa Information

Visa Information

A visa is a document required by many countries, in addition to your passport, that allows you to enter the country for a certain purpose (whether that鈥檚 to stay, transit, or exit). Essentially, it is the country's government giving you legal permission to enter their country to travel, study, work, etc.

Please note, it is solely the responsibility of the student to:

  • determine the entry, transit, and stay requirements for the country or countries to which they will travel,
  • and to apply for any necessary visas, stay permits, or any other immigration requirements of the host nation(s).

It is also the responsibility of the student to:

  • verify the correct documentation required to apply for the required visa(s),
  • apply for the visa(s) early enough to ensure there is enough processing time,
  • and pay any fees associated with obtaining the visa(s).

小黄片视频's Office of Global Education is available to provide general guidance regarding student visa requirements and procedures; however, each student who travels abroad is expected to manage their own legal obligations regarding international travel.

It is strongly recommended by the Office of Global Education that you carefully review the appropriate consulate or embassy website for the nation(s) you plan to visit in order to determine current entry/study/exit visa requirements.
