Description: This training will allow students to develop an understanding of their roles as bystanders, as it relates to people of color. Although someone may not identify with a particular culture or racial/ethnic identity, this does not mean you cannot demonstrate support in some way. We are all in different places as it relates to the way we show support. This training will help students identify where they are in their journey and tangible ways to demonstrate support as an Ally, Advocate or Accomplice.

Students/Student Leaders

Outcomes: As a result of participating in this workshop participants will:

• Develop an understanding of the different roles of supporting others with different racial identities
• Develop an understanding of the value of each role (Ally, Advocate, Accomplice)
• Identify at least one tangible way to support in their current role (Ally, Advocate, Accomplice)
• Develop the ability to identify the different roles (Ally, Advocate, Accomplice)

Duration: 45 minutes

Description: Sometimes you just need a quick run down of what culture is and how it is valuable. This session goes into detail of who we are and the work we do in the Moore Center  as well as general concepts relevant to culture, cultural awareness and multiculturalism.

Outcomes: As a result of participating in this workshop participants will:

• Develop the ability to define culture as it relates to the E. TImothy Moore Student Multicultural Center
• Develop an understanding of the value of cultural identities  
• Develop an understanding of the Moore Center’s function in supporting ULI 1.4
• Develop an understanding of the Moore Center’s function in supporting ULI 5.3

In this training, student will examine their own social identities and to what extent these identities determine their access to various forms of power. We will also discuss how privilege and oppression inform how we engage with others. Finally, we will discuss concrete ways to practice inclusive leadership among peers. This workshop is designed for current KSU students.

Duration: 1 hour

Outcomes:  

• Develop meaningful relationships with other student leaders through community building
• Recognize their role and responsibility in relation to the overall university
• Reflect on leadership identity including values, strengths, and goals with the intent of implementing within leadership roles
• Examine the systems of privilege and oppression with the intention to create a more humane and equitable system for others
• Assess the value and importance of diversity, including intersectionality to develop strategies to create more inclusive environments

This is an interactive workshop designed to increase awareness of the concept of microaggressions, understand how they impact individuals and communities, and explore strategies to respond when encountering different situations when microaggressions occur.  Participants will gain more confidence and capacity in effectively addressing biased comments and behaviors, in addition to learning how one can contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive campus climate.
